Bashundhara City:
A pictorial tour -------------------------------------------------------------------------Bashundhara City, the first world-class shopping mall-cum-recreation centre in Bangladesh. The largest shopping mall in South-Asia went into operations on the 5th of August 2004, with a promise of bringing a new lease of life into the often mundane Dhaka life. The architecture of the mall is truly breathtaking and does give a sense of being in a foreign land. Bashundhara City promises to offer ample recreational facilities combined with its unimaginable number of shops. A multi-screen movie theatre with digital sound system is screening both local and foreign films. Each of the three parts of the theatre can accommodate 262 people. A bowling and billiard centre and video games is also there. The mall introduced ice-skating for the first time in Bangladesh.
At 4.8 kilometers long, it is the longest bridge in South Asia and the largest project in the history of Bangladesh, constructed over the Jamuna, the fourth largest river in the world. Built over almost four years, it cost over $1 billion and carries four lanes of traffic, a railway track, power lines, gas pipelines and fiber-optic telecommunications cables.
